The Algebra I course will provide opportunities for students to develop and communicate
an understanding of algebraic representation as a prerequisite to all higher
mathematics courses. Concepts covered in this course include real numbers and
their properties, functions, algebraic expressions, linear equations and inequalities,
systems of equations and inequalities, graphing polynomials, formulas, slope,
data analysis, probability, and matrix. The use of the graphing calculators will
be an integral part of this course. This course is designed to prepare students
for Geometry and then Algebra II. Upon completion of this class a student must
pass the state Algebra I test. It is recommended that a student entering Algebra I
should receive an 85 average in Pre-Algebra, score above 75% on the Mississippi
Curriculum Test in eighth grade and score 70% on an entry-level test for Algebra I.
