Prerequisite: Pre-Algebra
Transition to Algebra is an elective course intended to be a bridge between the
concrete concepts of pre-algebra and the abstract concepts of Algebra I and
Geometry. This course will be activity-based, allowing students to explore and
investigate algebraic and geometric concepts to build a stronger foundation of
basic skills. Such explorations should emphasize physical models, data, graphs,
and other mathematical representations in appropriate situations that facilitate
the learning process. This course is designed for those students who have completed
Pre-algebra and desire an alternative before taking Algebra I. Transition Algebra
is recommended for students receiving 84 or below averages in Pre-Algebra and/or
lower than 75% percentile on the 8th grade Mississippi Curriculum Test.
