1 Credit Graduation Requirement
This sophomore course includes a survey of literature, emphasizing such literature types as poetry, short stories, drama, essays, novels, and biographies; composition which is designed to improve the students' basic writing skills; and language study, which provides a continuing study of the basic rules of grammar and usage. Students will be asked to purchase novels as needed. A part of this course focuses on preparation for the state English II exam, the passing of which is a requirement for graduation. There will be no summer reading required. This course is recommended for students who will complete their education at the high school level and/or attend community college or pursue a vocational certification. It meets the minimum standards for a four-year university.
